Research Interests
Interested in molecular biology and chemistry to benefit conservation and the medical field.
Current Projects
Research coconut rhinoceros beetle (CRB) found in Hawaii by using eDNA and qPCR to study the migration of CRB to find ways to mitigate the spread of the insect.
Research Past Projects
Turtle Tagging with the Marine Option Program at University of Hawaii at Hilo to collect data of the physical characteristics of Chelonia mydas, Hawaiian green sea turtle. This data is collected for the sea turtle database to determine if Hawaiian green sea turtles should remain on the Endangered Species Act.
As part of NOAA Hollings Preparation Program, worked with Conservation International Hawaii and NOAA Fisheries to conduct research about transforming Hawaii’s seafood waste into value-added products. This was done by doing research on different methods of reducing fish waste in Hawaii, especially through doing extensive research on using fish gelatin for tissue engineering. Lastly, dissected ta’ape fish for NOAA to collect otoliths and gonads to contribute to NOAA’s life history program database.
